Module 5 — Protect What Works and Navigate Intensity · Step 2 of 3 · About 40 min
Protect what works or try one small response
Protect a working condition, or try one small reversible response and look at what happened next.
Teach
1 of 8There are two equal routes here: protect something that already works, or try one small response. You do not need a setback or a crisis to have something useful to learn.
Route A is continuation. Notice a condition that supports chosen, flexible engagement. Perhaps clear instructions let you work without repeatedly guessing, or a stopping time protects another responsibility. Ask what you want to keep, whether you can stop and return, and what boundary would protect it. The outcome can be one working condition and a decision to continue.
Route B is navigation. Choose a practical, reversible response: clarify an instruction, write one next action, reduce scope, ask for specific support, take an agreed break, change the environment, stop safely, or plan to return later. For example, instead of trying to solve an entire confusing task, ask which single part needs attention first.
Before trying the response, name what a useful next choice would look like. Useful might mean understanding a limit or deciding to stop. It does not have to mean becoming calm.
Use natural opportunities, not an episode quota or manufactured urgency. Notice later effects as well as immediate ones. A change after a response does not prove the response caused it. Stopping or redirecting is not failure.
Journal minimum: Save at least one short note in a Try or Reflect box for this lesson. You do not have to answer every question. Write what you noticed, a question, or what you still do not know. If you have not tried the activity, say so. You can use the example instead of personal details. This leaves something to return to in later lessons. Saving is not sharing.
