Module 3 — Test How I Operate · Step 2 of 3 · About 30 min
Try changing one part of the setup
Plan or attempt one reversible change, and notice both the result and the effort it takes.
Teach
1 of 8A changed-condition test is one manageable adjustment around a task. You might clarify instructions, reduce a distraction, use an accommodation, change the pace, or work alongside someone. Choose a change that is safe and available; do not create pressure, deprivation, or distress for comparison.
Keep the task and amount of work as similar as practical. For example, use the same short task with and without a written sample, rather than comparing an easy task with a much harder one. The closer the tasks are, the easier it is to notice a possible difference—but the comparison still will not prove cause.
Before starting, write a time limit and stop rule. A time limit sets the outer boundary. A stop rule names something that would make you end or change the activity sooner, such as increasing discomfort or interference with a responsibility you need to protect.
Decide what you will notice: fewer requests for clarification, easier restarting, or the effort needed afterward. Avoid making “feel better” the only possible result.
Practice, familiarity, sleep, interruptions, and other differences may affect the outcome. A provisional conclusion stays open to revision. Planning without attempting remains valid, and stopping at the rule is using the plan—not failing it.
Journal minimum: Save at least one short note in a Try or Reflect box for this lesson. You do not have to answer every question. Write what you noticed, a question, or what you still do not know. If you have not tried the activity, say so. You can use the example instead of personal details. This leaves something to return to in later lessons. Saving is not sharing.
