Start with a question, not a pitch

Turn an idea or curiosity into one bounded question you can check against the outside world.

Starting with a question lets you investigate a direction without having to defend it first. You can be curious about a job, course, trade, activity, practical problem, project, or venture. You can also compare two possibilities or begin with an honest unknown.

A useful question is small enough to investigate. “Is this my future?” is difficult to answer directly. “What does a beginner actually do in this field?” or “What hours and requirements does this course have?” gives you something you can check.

For example, someone considering a trade could begin by reading current entry requirements and looking at a beginner task. Someone exploring a problem could ask who encounters it and what people already do about it. Neither needs a pitch or a promise to solve anything.

Choose an accessible way to learn: public information, existing reports, appropriate observation, program materials, expert input, an informational conversation, or a neutral case. Direct outreach is optional. A simulation can help you practise thinking, but it is not evidence of conditions at a real workplace or service.

Name what you want to learn and what the source can actually tell you. No travel, spending, customer, public disclosure, interview, or business idea is required. A question can remain open when access is limited.

Journal minimum: Save at least one short note in a Try or Reflect box for this lesson. You do not have to answer every question. Write what you noticed, a question, or what you still do not know. If you have not tried the activity, say so. You can use the example instead of personal details. This leaves something to return to in later lessons. Saving is not sharing.

Show — a neutral example, never a participant story
